Market gets DVC tick of approval.

At the April sitting of Derwent Valley Council (DVC), all councillors voted ‘Yes’ on the proposal for the continuation of the High Street Markets.

The decision was vindication for the small group of volunteers who believed that the Saturday morning outdoor market would be viable and provide another magnet for visitors to New Norfolk and local residents alike. Now that the concept has been proven and there’s approval in place for continuation, DVC has called for expressions of interest from operators keen to manage operations into the future.

The tabling of the market’s future as an agenda item came after excellent consultation from DVC whereby they sought feedback via an online survey from the community who attended the markets (186 submissions) and stallholders (40 submissions) who offered a wide range of products.

DVC Mayor Martyn Evans, in an article from the New Norfolk Gazette (April 25) stated: “You look at the feedback forms and the surveys, which really said that yes we do [want the market], and yes Saturday is the day“.

The decision comes at the same time as the market was listed as one of 6 ‘Reasons to visit’ in Country Style Magazine’s feature of New Norfolk in their April 2018 edition.
