Targa’s in town

On Friday 20 April, the Derwent Valley PCYC in Derwent Crescent will be hosting the Targa Tasmania vehicles, their drivers and crew. The competitors will take their lunch break there as part of Stage 26 of the annual event.

Our local leg of racing will be southbound along Molesworth Road which will be closed 12:21 pm to 4:15 pm on Friday on the stretch of road between Glen Dhu Rd and Glenlusk Rd.

Targa Tasmania is a world-class international motorsport rally event now in its 27th consecutive year. The rally travels over 2,000kms with over 40 competitive stages for the true motoring enthusiast, catering for up to 300 selected cars approved by invitation.

According to the Targa Tasmania site “The Targa heritage comes from a passionate history dating back to 1905 in Sicily, where the inaugural “Targa Florio” was unveiled. Targa Florio took its name from organiser Vincenzo Florio.”

The CBD will no doubt be buzzing with visitors and local enthusiasts so plan to spend some time on High Street to see what the town has to offer.
